Dive Site Description of Ukulas Thila / Manta Point

Manta Point / Ukulas Thila is a well-known diving site that consistently has large numbers of Manta Rays. Manta Point lies on the north section of the channel that leads out of the North Male Atoll. Nearby islands include Velidhu, Nika and Gaugadu. The dive site itself is simply a platform that rises up from the bottom of the channel - 30 meters to a depth of 15 meters beneath the water’s surface. This platform is around 250 meters in length.

Manta point is really suited to advanced divers as the dive site is looks out to the open ocean and is subject to some strong currents. Drift dives are often made here from the open ocean using the currents. Divers are able to seek refuge behind projections if the currents do become strong at times.

The giant platform at Manta Point is an ideal place to see various species of fish that survive on plankton. Besides Manta Rays, it is also possible to see blue striped snappers and eagle rays. There are also various kinds of fauna that can be found flourishing in and around the platform.
