Dive Site Description of Maldives Victory Wreck

In February 1981, a 35,000 ton freighter named the ‘Maldive Vitory’ ran at full speed into the southern tip of the airport Island, Hulhule with all its merchandise. This shipwreck is located on the western side of Hulhule, parallel to the reef on the seabed at a depth of 35 meters.

Fish life in and around the wreck include Batfish, Barracuda, Humphead Wrasses, Fusiliers and even sea turtles. Wrecks always make a great place for sea life and shortly after the Maldives Victory sank, they quickly began to settle in.

A buoy marks the location of the Maldives Victory Wreck and boats can be moored here. There are powerful currents between Hulhule and Male so most dives make use of a line. Dives usually start from the main mast of the wreck which rises to a depth of 12 meters from water surface. Once the deck is reached, various structures provide shelter against the currents. The holds are wide open and the inner bulkheads can be explored by swimming down stairways and along corridors.
