Dive Site Description of Kuda Faru / Saddle / Makunudhoo

Kuda Faru also known as Saddle is located on the west side of the North Male Atoll. The nearest islands are Makunudhoo and Eriadhoo. This dive site is known as the Saddle due to the way it is symmetrically formed. Unlike usual thilas, this one is 13 meters beneath sea level then gently drops down to 43 meters. The total length is around 1000 meters in the channel of Makunudhoo. It is also worth mentioning that there is a large cavern that sits at a depth of 26 meters.

In terms of diving at Kuda Faru, there is often a current on top of the saddle and other particular points can also be powerful. Generally when diving in channels the best conditions are found with inflowing currents, therefore this site is suitable for drift dives.

An abundance of soft corals can be found at Kuda Faru as the saddle is on the interior of the current rich channel. The upper section of the reef has massive table corals growing. Nurse sharks and reef sharks are also a common sight around the channel. Other sea life that may be encountered includes eagle rays, sweetlips, oriental grunt, schools of red soldier fish and humphead wrasses
