Maalifushi by COMO

The Maalifushi is a hotel located on a private island in the Maldives, owned by the COMO Group, an Asian company which owns a string of luxury hotels and is based in Singapore. One of the luxuries included with this hotel is the COMO Shambhala spa, a world class facility.

This hotel offers a variety of luxury suites and villas some of which are over the waters of the lagoon and reached by wooden walkways whilst others are located in the beautiful gardens. Many of the rooms have their own private pools and the ones over the water have their own private terrace which allows access into the waters of the lagoon.

Dining at the Maalifushi is an experience all of its own and will have guests returning home having sampled cuisine that is fresh, exciting and of a standard rarely experienced anywhere else in the world. The Tai restaurant specialises in Japanese food and includes in its menu both sushi and sashimi. The Madi restaurant serves fresh local produce and seafood often under the stars in the form of a BBQ. On several evenings during the week, the restaurant has theme nights. Also featured at this restaurant is the world famous Shambhala cuisine, a nutritional variety of flavourful seafood dishes which have organic products and minerals added. The Thila is the main bar and lounge and features an outside BBQ but also serves Salads, seafood and pizzas in an easy going atmosphere with an additional Mediterranean tapas menu available on request.

The COMO Group are known worldwide for their retreats that provide the ultimate in relaxation and the Maalifushi is no exception, with its spa featuring 8 over the water treatment rooms facing the sea and an open air yoga pavilion. For even more relaxation, the hotel also features male and female steam rooms, saunas and Jacuzzis. Not forgetting of course that you can also relax in your room’s own private pool or sunbath on your own private terrace over the waters.

Although the Maalifushi is ideal as a retreat where you can spend all your time relaxing and being pampered in luxurious surroundings, it doesn’t mean to say that there is not an assortment of activities to partake in, if you want a rest from relaxing. The island is located in the Thaa Atoll which is a string of undeveloped islands that have shallow waters surrounding them and these waters are ideal for sailing and using a catamaran, both of which are available from the hotel. Sailing or catamaran lessons are also available on request as is a captain, for an additional fee. As with elsewhere in the Maldives, diving and snorkelling are favourites with visitors, offering them the opportunity to see the abundant variety of colourful sea life that call the waters around the Maldives, home. Both these activities can be arranged by the hotel, ensuring that all your time at the hotel will be well spent, either soaking up the luxury or taking in the beauty of underwater life, at its best.
